ABI is the largest and oldest business network in the state. We were formed as the Iowa Manufacturers Association in 1903. Today we represent almost 1400 businesses of all kinds which employ over 300,000 employees. However, contrary to popular believe this is not an organization just for large businesses. In fact, 75% of ABI’s members employ fewer than 100 individuals. Why do so many businesses, regardless of size turn to ABI?
Our core competency is in Public Policy Advocacy for all business interests. We serve that role in three principal areas:
- Two full-time lobbyists at the Capitol. (They are two of the best and brightest not only in the state, but in the country.)
- IIPAC – The Iowa Industry Political Action Committee – we feel that the statewide business scope of our organization allows us to more strategically direct resources to candidates that can truly make a difference on Iowa’s business climate.
- Prosperity Project –. This tool provides an avenue for thousands of Iowa business leaders to in speak in a unified voice to legislators regarding critical business issues from taxes to healthcare.
In addition to this very important policy work that strives to keep Iowa a good place to start, locate and operate a business, ABI provides a venue for Iowa business leaders to learn new best business practices and to do business with one another. Last year we hosted 37 events across the state including how to use social media to grow your business and how to plan for the continuation of your business when you are ready to move on. Just as many events are taking place this year. For a list of upcoming events, click here. There is just no better place to connect with the best business minds in the state than at ABI events.
ABI recently launched a new opportunity for young companies to experience the benefits of ABI membership. ABI’s Start-Up Studio is open to key leadership from any Iowa company within its first few years of inception. Benefits of this special membership package are designed to develop mentoring relationships with tough-minded industry experts, encourage participation in ABI events at a deep discount, and provide a resource for all business-related questions and issues as they arise. In addition, members of the Start-Up Studio have the opportunity to contribute content to ABI’s weekly newsletter that goes to over 3,000 business leaders across the state.
For more information on ABI’s Start-Up Studio and all the resources that ABI provides to member businesses across the state, check out our website at www.iowaabi.org or contact Leisa Fox, VP of Membership at lfox@iowaabi.org .
